In the third quarter of 2024, the top News and Magazines applications on the Android platform in South Africa showcased interesting trends in downloads and active user engagement, as reported by Sensor Tower.

Breaking News - Live Headlines observed a notable increase in weekly downloads, peaking at around 15.6K in late July. However, a sharp decline was evident towards the end of September, with downloads dropping to approximately 911. The app's weekly active users also experienced a rise, reaching nearly 77.2K in early September, before decreasing to 51.7K by the end of the month.

Opera News: breaking & local maintained a consistent download rate throughout the quarter, with a slight peak of 8K downloads in the week of September 9. The app's active user base remained relatively stable, fluctuating around 230K to 250K, ending the quarter at approximately 228.6K.

AutoTrader saw a surge in downloads mid-quarter, with a significant peak of 5.5K downloads in late July. This was followed by a gradual decline, concluding the quarter with about 1.4K downloads. The active user numbers mirrored this trend, peaking at 8.2K in early September before falling to 4.9K by the end of the quarter.

South Africa Breaking News showed varied download patterns, with a notable spike in the second week of September reaching 7.3K downloads. Active users also peaked in the same week at around 11.3K, before declining to approximately 4.8K by the end of September.

Google News - Daily Headlines experienced a decline in downloads starting mid-quarter, dropping from 5.1K in late July to about 827 by the end of September. Despite fluctuations, active users remained engaged, ranging from 238K to 292K over the quarter.
